Delores Bruce Matthews, born to John R. Bruce and Pearl Wallace Bruce in St. Louis, Missouri.

Del and Delores homesteaded in Saldotna, Alaska, where their two oldest children were born.

After leaving Alaska, they owned and operated an antique store in Ellensburg, Washington, before moving to Carson City, Nevada. There Delores worked in the Children’s Lounge at the Carson City Nuggett, managed the St. Charles Hotel,

current location of Firkin and Fox, and managed apartments for Bill Green.

Delores then bought the Dayton Flea Market with her daughter Delane and son Mark. During the 15 years of ownership she ran the flea market and an antique store.

She was active in the mining community in Lyon County and co-owned a working copper mine.

She loved being with her children and grandchildren, and teaching them her entrepreneurial skills. She was passionate about pro-life ministry.

The last few years of her life, she resided at Skyline Estates, where everyone loved her and became part of her family.

Our family really appreciates the love mom received from the staff at Skyline Estates and St. Mary’s Hospice.

Delores is survived by two sisters, Doris and Ruthanne and one brother Richard, five children, Del Matthews, Delane Pennington, Deacon Matthews, Delita Cordes, and Mark Matthews and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A beautiful mother and grandmother went to heaven and will always be missed. We love you Mom.

A family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
