Healthy Communities Coalition’s Stand Tall member Cimberlin Andrus will speak about tobacco use awareness at the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Nevada Clean Indoor Air Act (NCIAA) at the Governor’s Mansion on Dec. 8. Nine additional Stand Tall team members and two certified community health workers, Kathy McIntosh and Tammy Sutton, also will be on hand.

The NCIAA was passed by Nevada voters in 2006. It protects from secondhand smoke in most public places and indoor places of employment.

The anniversary celebration will reflect on the impact of the act over the past decade, as well as assess tobacco control efforts in Nevada. Guest speakers will include policymakers and advocates, who have been instrumental in advancing smoke-free and other tobacco prevention efforts in the Silver State.

Stand Tall students in Lyon County high schools work with their schools and communities to prevent alcohol, tobacco, prescription and other drug use and to promote good nutrition, mental health and physical fitness. The teams take on a number of projects annually, such as coat, shoe and food drives and 5K run/walk events to fund their annual scholarships for Lyon County students.
