Bernard Ponte, age 90, passed away on December 5, 2016 in Reno, Nevada.
Bernard was born April 3, 1926 to Lorenzo and Giame Marta Ponte and was raised in the Old River District of Churchill County.
He served in the Air Force briefly before being recalled to Fallon to help with the family farm. He then worked as a mechanicfor Dodge Construction and A.D. Drumm for over 10 years, helping construct many of the major highways in Nevada.
He subsequently obtained a contractor license, and built many homes as well as several residential developments and light commercial buildings. He maintained a 50 acre farm near Fallon, which he lived on until his death.
Bernard was preceded in death by Barbara Lois Ponte, his wife of 58 years.
He is survived by his son, Bernard Ponte Jr. of Carson City; his daughter, Cynthia Ponte Troxel of Fallon; 3 grandchildren Ryan, Julie and Steven, a great-grandchild, Arrilyn; a nephew, James O’Brien and a niece Kathy Vincent.
Bernard was laid to rest in Fallon at a private family ceremony.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held in mid-January on a date to be announced.
