The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Mason Valley man Wednesday in connection with a March murder.

Deputies arrested Dustin Cooper, 27, of Mason Valley, on suspicion of first-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon in connection with the shooting death of his wife, 26-year-old Johnie Shadden.

Shadden was killed March 22, 2016, after deputies responded to reports of a gunshot injury on Stanley Lane in Mason Valley. When deputies arrived they found Shadden dead from a gunshot.

Cooper is charged with first-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon. He’s being held without bail at the Lyon County Detention Center in Yerington.

Cooper had a number of weapons in his possession for repairs which were confiscated by authorities pending completion of the investigation. The Sheriff’s Office is working with the Lyon County District Attorney’s Office and the ATF for their release. The gun owners will be notified of the date and location to pick up their weapons.

The U.S. Postal Inspectors and FBI assisted with the arrest.
