LAS VEGAS — Authorities say a 26-year-old inmate serving time in an auto theft case is dead after a stabbing at High Desert State Prison outside Las Vegas.

The Nevada Department of Corrections says Andrew Ryan Thurgood died at the prison infirmary after he was stabbed about 1:45 p.m. Monday during a fight with two other inmates in the prison dayroom.

Corrections spokeswoman Brooke Keast says investigators identified two alleged assailants. Their names weren’t made public.

Thurgood had been serving a 12-to-34-months sentence at the prison in Indian Springs following his conviction last year in Las Vegas on a felony attempted possession of a stolen vehicle charge.

Records show Thurgood had prior felony convictions in 2009 for attempted battery and possession of a stolen vehicle.
