“Paneful.” The concussion that resulted from the firing of Col. Curry’s cannon on Thursday night broke out no less than 19 panes of glass from the glass doors of Mr. Rail’s hardware store. One window and one lamp chimney were the damages to the Appeal office. When that cannon is fired again, it should be placed nearer the center of the Plaza and not charged so heavily.

In another column is an article from the Alpine Argus pointing out the destruction affected by large herds of sheep grazing upon land. The sheep interests have become so intense in this state that it needs more public attention than it is now receiving. The sheep men manage to graze in nearly all the counties in the state, but never happen to be in any particular county when the tax assessor is about.

Final plans were completed this afternoon for tomorrow’s ninth annual Nevada Boy Scout Day, as Carson City residents will play host to more than 70 Boy Scouts from all over the state and Northern California. Scouts will convene here arriving en masse on the colorful V&T Railway from Reno.

A six-man board was created today by Gov. Grant Sawyer to investigate the Nevada Highway Department. The board, comprised of three Democrats and three Republicans, will report its findings directly to the public, Sawyer said.

Recommendations — which include qualifications and advertising for a new city manager — were approved by supervisors following a surprise announcement by Supervisor Eugene “Doc” Scrivner, who said the board should appoint Acting City Manger W.T. Golden to the post.
