Have a favorite restaurant or watering hole? How about a great dentist or auto mechanic?

Is there a special event in Churchill County you enjoy or a place you escape for solitude?

We know of many people who enjoy watching a movie or taking a hike at Grimes Point or go off-roading somewhere beyond the maddening crowd. In past Best of Fallon voting, many of these events or locations have caught the eye of hundreds of voters and became a Best of Fallon.

Now until Feb. 17 you will be able to vote online or submit a paper ballot for the 2016 Best of Fallon, the year’s most anticipated contest in the Lahontan Valley. This is your chance to reward businesses and individuals for a job well done.

The Best of Fallon has been in existence for more than a decade. Your votes show the respect you have for our people and what makes Fallon a great city in which to live.

Voting is divided into Best Dining, Best Businesses, Best of People and Best Entertainment / Recreation. Within each division are numerous categories; for example in Dining, voters willo be able to vote for favorite restaurant or the best place for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

The Best of People ranges from attorneys to food servers to photographers, while Best Business asks you to provide us a name of your favorite auto repair shop to furniture store to veterinary clinic.

The voting closes in one week on Feb.17 and once ballots are tallied, the LVN will contact the winners near the end of February or the first week of March. To have your votes count, fill out at least half of the ballot and don’t forget to include your name and address.

So far, we have received a half dozen ballots with only one or two names written in and no name and address have been included. Those ballots have already been eliminated. No copies of ballots will be accepted, either.

Every year, though, we encounter opportunists from outside Nevada trying to cash in on the Best of Fallon and other best of programs, so don’t be fooled by out-of-town companies or individuals who are notifying you as a winner and would you like to buy a $150 plaque.

Once the winners are announced in a special publication on March 30, the awards will be given out at a luncheon in April. Last year, more than 70 businesses and individuals attended the luncheon and basked in their recognition of being a Best of Fallon recipient.

Editorials appear on Wednesdays in the Lahontan Valley News
