The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is looking for the driver of a pickup truck that rammed an apartment building on Hot Springs Road, severing gas lines to four units.
Sheriff Kenny Furlong said the wreck forced the evacuation of 15-20 people living in the complex until the gas was shut off by Southwest Gas workers late Wednesday night.
Four units of the complex at 603 Hot Springs Road, he said, will remain unoccupied until repairs can be made.
“As of now, we are trying to locate the driver of the vehicle,” he said. He said the driver fled on foot and may be injured.
“We suspect we know who it was and why it happened,” Furlong said adding there was “evidence of alcohol” in the truck.
Furlong said the apartment that was hit directly was left uninhabitable. That resident was taken to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
Southwest Gas advised the apartment owners they would need a private contractor to examine the lines to the other units to ensure there’s no damage inside the building from the impact before allowing residents to return.
The wreck happened just after 10 p.m. Wednesday.
