Emergency personnel had to evacuate the Topsy Lane Walmart on Saturday after a woman wielded pepper spray inside the store.

At least seven people suffered from exposure to Mace at the Topsy Lane Walmart around lunchtime on Saturday.

A woman reportedly deployed the substance inside the store’s vision center at 12:22 p.m.

The 54-year-old woman was taken into custody by deputies after she was detained by shoppers.

The victims were treated by East Fork Fire District medics after they were taken from the store.

“We have at least 13 other people who say they could feel the effects throughout the store,” East Fork Deputy Chief Dave Fogerson said. “Carson City Health has cleared us on any food-related issues.”

Firefighters tried to limit the pepper spray to the vision center by ventilation, but it escaped into the store.

The store was reopened at around 2:05 p.m. after using the store’s HVAC system to clear the interior air.
