RENO — A former Reno developer and lobbyist has left prison and will spend the rest of his sentence for making illegal campaign contributions in a San Francisco halfway house.
Harvey Whittemore was sent to prison in 2014 for making excessive campaign contributions and making contributions in the name of another. He was sentenced to two years in prison for those contributions to Sen. Harry Reid’s 2010 re-election campaign.
Reid, a Nevada Democrat, was not accused of any wrongdoing. He was required to amend his campaign reports.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that Whittemore’s son said his father was released earlier this month to a Federal Bureau of Prisons rehabilitation program.
