Western Nevada College’s Nursing Department is hosting a Certified Nursing Assistant Open House from 1-5 p.m. Friday, March 4. The event is free to the public. Visitors will learn about training and employment opportunities for CNAs. The Open House will be in the Cedar Building, Room 100-Marlette Hall on the Carson City campus, 2201 W. College Parkway.

Event participants will tour the college’s nursing labs, learn about entrance requirements and hear from guest speakers such as local employers and both previous and current CNA students.

The need for dependable CNAs is strong. They are hired to work in hospitals, long-term care agencies, and in home healthcare. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows jobs in the CNA field are projected to grow 17% in the next ten years. CNA experience can lead to further education and opportunities in the healthcare field.

The six-unit CNA course prepares students to take the Nevada CNA certification exam. CNA programs will be offered in both summer and fall semesters this year. Class sizes are limited.

This event is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration as part of the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) program.
