The Nevada Supreme Court has dismissed as moot the appeal by a Las Vegas candidate challenging an order barring him from running in the 2014 election.

Jesse Holder’s candidacy was challenged by Shelly Shelton on grounds he didn’t live in District II. When Holder failed to appear for the hearing, the district court ruled him ineligible to run. Shelton ultimately won the seat and served in the 2015 Legislature.

He appealed but the high court ruled it couldn’t grant effective relief since the election was over.

Therefore, the high court ruled, the issue was moot.
