The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in identifying a person of interest in an attempted kidnapping at a Dayton elementary school.

Around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, an unknown male approached a female Sutro Elementary student near the area of Crown Point and Golden Pick and asked her to come with him by offering her candy. The student ran away immediately and no contact was made, said Lyon County officials.

The male is described as a white adult male in his 30s with a thin build and short blonde spiked hair. He’s said to be 5-9 and was wearing dark colored jeans, a white and gray shirt and wearing reading glasses. The suspect was on foot and no vehicle was seen.

An email was sent to Sutro parents, informing them of the incident. The email stated teachers were asked to have a conversation with students regarding strategies to avoid talking to adults and accepting rides or gifts from strangers.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office also strongly encourages parents to talk with their children about strangers and suspicious behavior. Helpful resources can be found at the National Crime Prevention Council website at http://www.ncpc.org/topics/violent-crime-and-personal-safety/strangers.
