Nevada Health Centers’ Mammovan is visiting the area to provide area women access to mammography services.

The Mammovan began operations in 2000 with the help of a grant secured by former Congressman John Ensign and former First Lady of Nevada, Dema Guinn.

With eight sites throughout the state, Nevada Health Centers, a nonprofit, continues to operate the Mammovan with the help of donations and grant funding, including a grant from the Prevent Cancer Foundation.

The Mammovan will be at Virginia City Community Health Center, 175 E. Carson St., Virginia City, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27. It moves on to Lyon County Community Health Clinic, 26 Nevin Way, Yerington, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1 and Tuesday, Feb. 2. Its Carson City visit will be from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3 at Sierra Nevada Health Center, 3325 Research Way.

Screenings are primarily for women age 40 and older; however, screenings will be provided to those younger than 40 who have a physician referral.
