JC Penney is locating its eighth Nevada store here in Carson City.

George R. Soetje is manager of the new JC Penney store that opened here yesterday.

Soetje comes to his new assignment from Grass Valley, Calif., where he has been manager since April of 1974. He is an 18-year veteran with the national retail firm.

Soetje said that it has been designed to incorporate some of the latest merchandising concepts developed by the 73-year-old retail chain.

“The interior incorporates new concepts in both layout and use of color, with bright decor shades and polished chrome fixtures creating a setting for innovations in merchandise display techniques. And we have planned the store so that the busy shopper can find everything quickly and easily.”

Management said the store has created 80 jobs here in Carson City.

This continues the Appeal’s review of news stories and headlines during its Sesquicentennial year.
