The Nevada Department of Public Safety has been recognized for its support of Nevadans serving in the National Guard and Reserve.

The agency was among six Northern Nevada organizations nominated in 2016 for the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the highest recognition given to employers for support of employees serving in the Guard and Reserve.

The department was nominated for the honor by Sgt. Colter Earl of the Army Reserve and Staff Sgt. Scott Smith of the Nevada Army National Guard, both employees of the Department of Public Safety.

“Upon notification that I was pending not only for a deployment but for active duty training months prior to the deployment, the command staff within my division were more than accommodating and went above and beyond expectations,” said Sgt. Smith.

Other Northern Nevada organizations nominated for the Freedom Award were Charter Communications, Nevada State Bank, ESI Security Systems, IQ Technology Solutions and Renown Regional Medical Center.
