Odie “Warren” Reed passed away June 26, 2016 at Carson Tahoe Hospital with his family by his side.
Odie “Warren” was born in Los Angeles, California. He spent most of his childhood in the Los Angeles area.
He served in the Army from 1951 to 1958. While in the army, he found his passion for cooking. He soon rose to the rank of Sergeant. Odie, lovingly called Warren by his family, was proud of his time in the service. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
Odie studied gourmet cooking at one of the finest Culinary Arts Schools. He won many awards and trophies for his outstanding cuisine. He was also a master of ice carvings. He received the title Chefs De Cuisine in 1964. He was also known in the area as an Epicurian Chef serving French cuisine.
Well known on the Comstock as Chef for the Misfits Touchdown Restaurant, Red Garter and the Gold Canyon Steak House in Dayton, NV. Chef Odie took first prize in several local chili cook-offs. He also won first prize three consecutive years in the Rocky Mountain Oyster Coof-Off in Virginia City, NV. From 1970 to 1980 he owned the famous Fond Du Lac restaurant on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe. Chef Odie was a gourmet cook in many restaurants in Reno and Carson City.
Odie lived in Dayton, Nevada for over 20 years. He attendedThe Bridge Chruch in Carson City.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Odie E. Reed and Venia Vashti Chalker Reed, and his granddaughter, Jamie Marie Palmer.
He is survived by his sisters, Carolyn Sheeks and Carol “Annie” Oehler; two daughters, Robin Hicks (Greg) and Stacy Reed; 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 3 nieces, 1 nephew and many grand nieces and nephews.
Warren will be missed,but his memory will live on through those who knew and loved him.
Military Services will be held Friday, July 29th at 10:00 am at the Genoa Cemetary. Followed by a Celebration of Life to be held at the home of Carolyn Sheeks.
