The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Fallon Police Department and United States Marshals Service conducted 182 sex offender compliance checks as a part of Operation Vigilance.
Twenty-six offenders were found out of compliance with registration requirements and one supervised offender was arrested for violating his probation terms and conditions.
The checks were conducted Thursday, July 21 through Friday, July 22, in a joint effort with Nevada Department of Public Safety Division of Parole and Probation, with nearly 12 officers along with area law enforcement agencies knocked on doors and made contact with community members to carry out this operation.
The agencies verified the whereabouts of each individual’s registered residence and/or place of employment and those found to be out of compliance or with unknown locations will be further investigated for violations of state, local and federal laws.
The agencies also made sure to educate and provide direction to the Nevada Sex Offender Registration website to access information regarding sex offenders in the area.
The operation was viewed as a success for increasing offender supervision and sex offender compliance and serves as an example of how federal, state and local law enforcement agencies work together to increase community safety in Northern Nevada, said Nevada Parole and Probation Lt. James Richardson.
Funding for the operation was provided by the U.S. Marshall Service for Parole and Probation, department funding for Lyon County and grant funding from the Nevada Attorney General’s Office which secured a Sex Offender Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering, and Tracking grant issued by the U.S. Department of Justice for Lyon and Fallon Police Department staff.
