One Carson City man has been arrested on attempted murder charges after he allegedly tried to beat his mother to death.

Douglas Taladay, 40, was arrested on charges of attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon, elderly enhancement and preventing a victim from calling 911.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office responded to the 800 block of Arrowhead Drive around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday for a domestic battery. Upon arrival, the 65-year-old victim reported her son, Taladay, beat her and tried to kill her. Taladay allegedly was off his medications and had beaten her with his fists, then retrieved a set of nunchuks and struck her several times.

The victim was able to calm Taladay long enough to retrieve the phone and called 911. Allegedly when he found out she called 911, he forcefully took the phone from her.

Paramedics were summoned to the scene and the victim was urgently transported to Renown Medical Center by ground ambulance. CareFlight was not immediately available for air transport.

The victim’s condition isn’t immediately known and presently considered non-life threatening.

Taladay was taken into custody without incident. He was interviewed by detectives and admitted he and his mother had argued over yard chores earlier. Because of this, he admitted he became angry and beat his mother with his fists with the intent to kill her. Allegedly once he realized the difficulty in the task, he retrieved the nunchuks and beat her further.

Taladay is in custody at the Carson City Jail and charged with attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon, elderly enhancement and preventing a witness from calling 911.

His bail is set at $500,000.
