Doris E. Warren

Doris E. Warren, 91, of Gardnerville, Nevada, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family on Wednesday, June 8, 2016. She was born to Alvy and Ruby Brown, on October 28, 1924, in Long Beach, California. Doris grew up in Bellflower, California, and graduated from Excelsior High School in 1942. Doris fell in love with Walter, whom she met while he was working at a gas station in Bellflower. Shortly after, Walter joined the United States

Navy and served aboard the USS Mugford in the Pacific Theater from 1942 to 1945. His ship survived a direct hit by a Japanese kamikaze during the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Unable to have repairs made in New Zealand, his ship sailed under its own power to San Diego, California. While repairs were being made to the ship, Bud took leave and traveled to Bellflower, were he and Doris were married. After a brief honeymoon and trip to Oklahoma where his family lived, they returned to Bellflower. Walter went back to war, and Doris waited anxiously for him. After the war, Doris and Walter settled in Norwalk, California. They bought a new two bedroom house and started a family. Doris entered the workforce as a Nurse’s Assistant at Rancho Los Amigos Hospital in Downey, CA. She was loved and admired by all that worked with her, as was shown at her retirement party after 12 years of service to others. Doris and Walter moved to Gardnerville, Nevada in 1990.Doris came to know the Lord shortly after Walter’s conversion and faithfully served her Lord all the days of her life. Doris and Walter were charter members of the Norwalk Church of the Nazarene in Norwalk, California. She served for many years as the treasurer of the Missionary Society. Doris was undeniably outgoing and always made it a point to greet new visitors, she was loved by all She was preceded in death by her loving

husband of 66 years, Walter, who passed away February 8, 2010. She is survived by her sons Larry, Robert and his wife Connie, daughter Marilyn Wanamaker, and grandsons Doug Warren and Eric Wanamaker. A celebration of her life will be held Friday, June 17 at 10:00 AM at Crossroads Nazarene Church, 1788 Pinenut Rd, Gardnerville. Doris will be interred next to her husband at the Veterans National Cemetery in Fernley, Nevada.
