After hitting a rough patch to start the back nine, ex-Wave golfer Scott Smith rebounded to recover most of his score.

Smith finished with two points in the Modified Stablefold format in Thursday’s opening round of the Barracuda Championship at Montreux Golf and Country Club. Smith finished 1-over par with a score of 73 in the conventional scoring format but the modified method assesses points for birdies and bogeys.

Smith garnered five points through Hole 11 before double-bogeying on the 12th and 14th and bogeying on the 15th to be minus-2 with three holes to go. Smith birdied on the next two holes and then hit for par on the 18th to finish the opening round with two points, which had him tied for 54th at the time. Several golfers had just teed off when Smith finished.

Smith ended Thursday hitting for par on nine holes and shooting birdies on five holes.

Round 2 begins on Friday with Smith aiming to make the cut and play Rounds 3 and 4 over the weekend.
