SILVER DOLLARS AND WOODEN NICKELS: Athletes made Carson City proud

The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.

SILVER DOLLAR: To the Carson High boys basketball team for winning the program’s first regional title since 1995 and advancing to the NIAA Division I State semifinals. Also to Asa Carter for being named as the Sierra League Player of the Year and Regional Co-Player of the Year.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson High’s Nathan Mersino. Terin Keller, Brandon Basa, Kyle Rudy, Brady O’Keefe, Abel Carter, Connor Sievers, Corey Jasper and Sheldon Miller and Douglas High’s Blake Murray, Will Williams and Andrew Williams for qualifying for the NIAA Division I State Wrestling Championships. Also to Basa, who placed fourth, and Miller, who took third, to medal at state.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Eagle Scouts Matthew Fowler, 15, Carson Crosby, 16 and Aaron Galloway, 16, of Boy Scout Troop 401 who received their Eagle Scout awards recently during a Court of Honor ceremony at the Dayton Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

SILVER DOLLAR: To the Greater Nevada Credit Union for donating $3,106 to the Carson High Band.
