Carson City water main flushing to continue until May 31; discoloration possible

Carson City Public Works is reminding residents that there’s a potential for discolored water on and off as the water main flushing continues.

Flushing will continue through May 31.

Public Works says, “although the water will be safe for all uses including bathing, cooking and consumption, residents are advised to avoid washing light colored laundry until any discoloration has cleared up.”

The discoloration is caused by sediment in the water that has collected on the bottom of water mains.

The testing of wells is necessary due to increased water demand during the summer. It happens yearly in Carson City.

Public Works says 24 hours prior to flushing residences in the areas will be notified in person, by phone or will have a notice hung on the front door of their residence.

Specific areas that may be impacted are:

East of Freeway to north of service area, east to Deer Run Road south to Fifth Street.

Riverview/Buzzy’s Ranch through March 18.

Area bounded by Saliman to east, Roop to west, William to N. and Fifth to south.

Area bounded by Fairview to north, Edmonds to east, Silver Sage to west and Koontz to south.

Area bounded by Carson St/Freeway, south to Nye Lane.

The discoloration is expected to clear up 4-6 hours upon completion of flushing.
