Easter egg hunts, other events planned in Carson City area

More than just eggs hunts are in store for Carson City families this Easter, with activities ranging from a pancake brunch to games and cookie decorating to face painting planned this week.

Family-friendly Easter fun kicks off today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. when the Carson Mall hosts pictures with the Easter Bunny. The mall is hosting another Easter photo session at the same time on March 26, the same day it holds an egg hunt. The hunt starts at 2 p.m. for ages 1-4, with another egg hunt to follow for ages 5-8.

Carson Tahoe Health’s 4th annual EGGstravaganza, a family-oriented Easter celebration open to the community, is from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Sage Café at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, 1600 Medical Parkway. The event will feature games, a bounce house, treats, free gifts, cookie decorating, face painting, and, of course, thousands of stuffed plastic Easter eggs. Hop over to Mormon Station State Historic Park in Genoa from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 26 for the inaugural Cotton Tails Easter celebration, which includes a pancake brunch by executive chef April Woodward.

The picnic-style brunch will be followed by an egg hunt for children of all ages, with baskets being awarded to raffle winners in each age group. The Easter Bunny will make an appearance, and farm fresh eggs will be for sale. There also will be a photo booth and face painting. Mormon Station’s Easter celebration continues Sunday, March 27, when park rangers will be cooking up an Easter ham in a Dutch oven cooking demonstration from 1 to 3 p.m. Samples will be served until supplies run out.

C5 Church’s 5th annual Egg-Stravaganza Easter celebration, whose organizers are expecting thousands of participants, is at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 26 at Seeliger Elementary School, 2800 S. Saliman Road.

The Easter Bunny and more than 8,000 Easter eggs will be on hand at Kiwanis of Carson City’s annual egg hunt at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 26 at Centennial Park. The event is free to all children, who are welcome to meet the Easter Bunny at the event.

Upward of 3,000 plastic eggs filled with candy will be scattered around the day-use area of Lahontan State Recreation Area from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 26.

Participants will be split into three categories — ages 3 and under; ages 4-6; and ages 10-12. Each group searches for eggs in their assigned collection area. Also, several prize baskets and larger toy items are awarded to the children through a raffle that follows the hunt. The event is free and open to children 12 and younger. Washoe Lake State Park’s annual Easter egg hunt starts at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 26. The Easter Bunny arrives at noon. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. To participate, meet at the group use area pavilion.

Three egg hunts and activities for all ages are planned in Western Nevada College’s 5th annual Easter Fiesta, put on by the Association of Latin American Students, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 26. The egg hunts take place at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.
