RENO — After putting up impressive numbers during the week and tying the NCAA Division I record with 13-consecutive at-bats with a hit at the Grizzly Classic, sophomore first baseman Jennifer Purcell has been named the Mountain West Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.

For the week, Purcell, a Carson High grad, hit .778 (14-for-18) with two home runs, four doubles and nine RBI. The sophomore also tallied seven walks and no strikeouts. Over the five games at the Grizzly Classic, Purcell went 13-for-15 (.867) and went on her impressive run. Her 13 hits in 13 at-bats tied an NCAA record that was set by April Setterlund of Boston University in 2010 and was last matched by Haley Ward of Norfolk State in 2013.

Purcell’s hot hitting has propelled her into second in the MW and 44th in the nation with a .446 batting average. Her .815 slugging percentage ranks first in the conference and 34th in the NCAA.
