The Carson City Fire Department was presented with the 2016 Golden Rotor Award Friday morning.
The Golden Rotor Award is a quarterly award given by Care Flight to departments who are doing exceptional work within their community. Carson Fire was nominated for the award after a dangerous rescue in the foothills on Goni Road in January.
“This is a quarterly award for the great stuff our sister agencies do,” said Beth Davis, Care Flight paramedic. “We wanted to recognize them for this call and others because these guys do a great job.
“This award is to recognize people we work with who do just a great job. We can’t do our job if you aren’t doing yours.”
Davis presented the award to Chief Bob Schreihans at a small ceremony at Station 52 Friday morning. Also present was Mayor Bob Crowell, City Manager Nick Marano, nearly a dozen fire personnel and Care Flight members.
“Carson City Fire works frequently with Care Flight while going above and beyond for their community,” said Care Flight paramedic Bill Landon. Landon is the one who nominated the department for the award. “It is truly an honor to work with such a professional and skilled department.”
Crowell also took the time to thank the department for all the work it does for Carson City.
“On behalf of a grateful community, thank you,” Crowell said. “Know that you are deeply appreciated by us and thank you for what you do.”
This is the first time Carson City has won this award.
