Carson City Health Department’s food-service inspections for April 28. All scores are on a 100-point scale, with points deducted depending on the severity of violations:

Carson City Recreation, snack bar, 5400 Heritage Way, scored 100 points.

El Charro Avitia, bar, 4389 S. Carson St., scored 100 points.

Subway, 3959 S. Carson St., scored 100 points.

Tahoe Ridge Winery & Marketplace, 1105 S. Carson St., scored 100 points.

Van Gogh & Vino, 1087 S. Carson St., scored 100 points.

Juan’s Mexican Grill, 3680 Goni Road, scored 99 points. The dishwasher was not dispensing bleach at the appropriate concentration.

Smith’s Food & Drug, produce department, 599 E. William St., scored 99 points. The sanitizer container was empty; knives and other utensils were not properly sanitized.

Smith’s Food & Drug, bakery, 599 E. William St., scored 97 points. Food contact surfaces needed to be cleaned. Employees couldn’t demonstrate the proper sanitization technique of food contact surfaces. Surfaces of equipment and utensil needed to be cleaned. The bottom of the standing cooler was covered in food scraps.

Smith’s Food & Drug, deli, 599 E. William St., scored 96 points. Cloths used on food contact surfaces weren’t being used with the correct sanitizer concentration. Food contact surfaces needed to be cleaned. Untested sanitizer solutions were being used. Non-food-contact surfaces of equipment and door handles and sliding doors needed to be cleaned.

Smith’s Food & Drug, grocery, 599 E. William St., scored 96 points. A cooler was holding food at an improper temperature. Litter, such as old milk containers and cardboard scraps, was found in the store. The rear freezers needed to be cleaned. The receiving area was cluttered and in disarray.

Smith’s Food & Drug, meat department, 599 E. William St., scored 94 points. Meat was at an improper temperature. Equipment needed to be repaired. Paint needed to be touched up on the ceiling cooler fan. A supply of paper towels was missing.

Bistro at the Bryan, 901 S. Stewart St., scored 93 points. The handwashing sink was not being used by employees. The sandwich press was coated in grease.

El Charro Avitia, restaurant, 4389 S. Carson St., scored 92 points. Food items were being held at improper temperatures. Bags of food were not completely sealed, labeled and dated. Slicers needed to be cleaned.
