Carson boys take fifth

RENO — The Carson High golf team finished fifth in the final Sierra League tournament of the year earlier this week at Sierra Sage Golf Course.

Galena, led by Scott Rescigno’s 66, won for the sixth straight time with a 355. Manogue was second at 390, Damonte Ranch (464), Wooster (466) and Carson (468) concluded the top five. Douglas fielded an incomplete team.

Bebop Martinez led CHS with an 85 followed by Lakoda Smokey at 88 and Taylor Saarem with a 90.

“We certainly could have scored better,” coach Wade Greenlee said. “I’m looking forward to Arrowcreek and Somerset next week for regionals (Monday and Tuesday) to see our growth. We played Arrowcreek as our first tournament so this will be a good gauge on our progress. Somerset is always tough, but if the boys can keep the ball in play and putt well they can end this year on a high note. We accomplished our goal of making it to regionals by placing third in our league so that’s something to build on for next year.”

Truckee sweeps Dayton

TRUCKEE — Dayton dropped a doubleheader to Truckee on Friday, 11-9 and 16-3, Friday afternoon.

Weather permitting, the teams play one game today at 11 a.m. The schedule was switched around because of prom.

“We came in a little uninspired after locking up the fifth spot,” Dayton coach Mike Burrows said. “Truckee swung it well and came in inspired.”

Truckee led from wire-to-wire in the opener. Jesse Schmidt went 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Trevor Burrows and Gage Duke each went 2-for-3, Zach Woitas had two sacrifice fly balls and Mark Rainey had a run-scoring single.

Dayton managed just two hits in the second game, one each by Jacob Nelson and Rainey. Truckee put the game out of reach with nine runs in the first inning.
