Putting Carson City on the map in more ways than one is the goal of Dr. Lindsay Chichester, UNR Extension Educator, who has partnered with the Carson City Chamber to make marketing business on the web less intimidating.

Chichester has taught two previous classes and all agreed at the end of the three-hour session, they were ready to take their marketing to the next level using the business components of Facebook.

Taking a poll of the attendees, Chichester found 46 percent of the attendees became more comfortable with creating offers and 41 percent stated their overall knowledge of this medium increased. The largest increase at 53 percent was how to use Facebook live video.

The May 18 afternoon class will focus on two lesser known marketing tools — Pinterest and Instagram.

Chichester states, “Every minute, approximately 67,000 photo are uploaded on Instagram and many businesses are now finding success selling their products using Instagram. After all, a good photo is worth a thousand words and you don’t need to be a professional photographer to use this medium successfully.”

Pinterest can be a valuable tool as well — if you know how to use it.

“Pinterest often gets branded as the time-sucker of the social media world. However, it is also the platform where photos and content have the longest life — meaning people will see your content longer here than anywhere else and is great for driving traffic back to your website,” according to Chichester.

The informal, hands-on class will be 1-4 p.m. at the Carson City Chamber of Commerce, 1900 S. Carson St., and a certificate of completion will be awarded.

The cost is $30. Attendees must sign up in advance by calling 775-882-1565.
