Nevada jobless rate remains steady in April, 5.8 percent

LAS VEGAS — State officials say Nevada’s unemployment rate remained steady last month, at 5.8 percent statewide.

A state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation report released Wednesday attributed the stability to continued growth of jobs in construction, and in the trade, transportation and utilities category.

The state figure remains above the national jobless rate of 5 percent.

Chief Nevada economist Bill Anderson says construction in the state added 6,100 jobs, up 9.3 percent for the first four months of the year compared with the same period in 2015.

Trade, transportation and utilities has added 9,100 jobs this year, up 3.9 percent.

The rates are seasonally adjusted.

Nevada unemployment peaked at 13.7 percent in the summer of 2008. The rate has declined or held steady every month since October 2010.
