Janet Bowser Allen passed on April 13, 2016 at Banner Churchill Community Hospital in Fallon, NV of complications from pneumonia surrounded by family. Janet was 90 years old. The daughter of George Bowser and Tootsie Beckenridge-Bowser, Janet was born on March 25, 1926 in Fallon, NV. The Fallon native spent her childhood on the Stillwater reservation. She graduated from Churchill High School and went on to attend University of Nevada, Reno and Haskell Indian College. In adulthood she became a valued employee of the federal government. She performed her duties in several locations including San Bernardino, CA, Stewart, NV, and Poplar, MT. In 1973, she returned to NV and reconnected with her cherished childhood friend and high school sweetheart, Leonard Allen at the Reno Rodeo. The two married in 1976 and celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this year. Together they shared a supportive relationship. They attended dances, boxing matches, and rodeos including multiple trips to the National Finals in Las Vegas, NV. Janet spent several years as the Realty Officer for the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA). In retirement from the BIA her passion and dedication to serving the needs of the tribal community never faltered. She served as a leader, volunteering on tribal committees up to the week of her passing. Her siblings Jimmy, Edward, Helen, and Ruth and her granddaughter, Heather, preceded Janet in death. She leaves behind her husband, Leonard, sons Anthony, Sidney (Teri), and John (Jeanne). Additionally, her grandchildren Michael, Jamie, Brooke, and Erika will mourn her loss. Services will be Friday, April 22, 2016 at The Gardens Chapel at 11:00 AM with visitation 1 hour prior to service.
