On Sunday, April 10, 2016, the San Francisco Giants and 49ers, UNR Wolfpack and the Dayton High School DustDevils gave back to Heaven one of their biggest fans. Shannon Taylor Wines, was born to Blaine and Joni Wines in Carson City on Feb. 3rd, 1956. A fifth generation Nevadan, Shannon was raised in Stateline, Nevada. He attended Zephyr Cove Elementary and George Whittell High School, graduating in l974. He was a proud Warrior and played football and basketball for coaches Gary Lundergren and Frank Forvilly. Shannon continued his education at the University of Nevada, Reno. After graduation he began his teaching career. He had a choice between Hawthorne or Battle Mountain. His decision proved solid as he met his future wife, Peggy Slaven while teaching in Hawthorne. The couple were married June 15th, 1985. They honeymooned in San Diego, so that he could attend a SF Giants game with the Padres. Shannon taught school at Hawthorne Elementary for 6 years and 27 years at Dayton High School, retiring in 2013. Shannon taught English, Government and Leadership as well as coached football, golf, track and girls basketball. He was a passionate and dedicated teacher. Shannon’s happiest moments were at Dayton High School. His students respected him as he helped many get through class and added extra help to students who were trying to receive their GED. He was awarded the honor of Outstanding Teacher of the Year” at Dayton High School. Shannon enjoyed attending many SF Giants games as possible every summer and in the fall looked forward to playing fantasy football with his buddies. Shannon was escorted into Heaven by his loving mother, Joni Wines and his angelic sister, Kelly. He is survived by his wife, Peggy his father Blaine, brothers, Jaby (Kris), Kevin (Renee), sisters, Tacy (Larry) and Lindsay (Rob). He is also survived by his sister in-law, Susan (Jeff) and brother in-law Michael, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and 5 great nephews, all of whom he loved and adored. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Shannon T. Wines Memorial Scholarship Fund at Dayton High School, 335 Dayton, Nevada, 89403
