University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Nevada Radon Education Program is presenting the Environmental Protection Agency’s Region 9 Radon Stakeholders’ meeting on Tuesday from 8 a.m.– 4:30 p.m.. Attendees will discuss common issues, provide insight into future radon risk-reduction action, share perspectives, educate and network.

City and county officials, public agencies, medical and health care professionals, realtors, builders, code officials and others concerned about radon in homes, schools or business buildings will be attending. The meeting is hosted in partnership with the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health’s Radiation Control Program, in collaboration with the Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors, the Nevada Nurses Association and the U.S. EPA Region 9 office.

“This meeting is for those who may know something about radon, or nothing at all, and who may wish to convey radon information to others, whether job related or on a personal basis,” said Nevada Radon Education Program Director Susan Howe with University of Nevada Cooperative Extension. “We hope this educational event will inspire attendees to promote radon testing and fixing, and building new homes to be radon-resistant. Ultimately, we are focused on saving lives.”

The keynote speaker is Senior Director of Community Oncology Research Wallace Akerley, with the Huntsman Cancer Institute at University of Utah. There will be other speakers discussing a variety of topics including radiation, construction and health. Members of the media are encouraged to attend and to contact Cooperative Extension in advance if they wish to arrange for interviews. The agenda may be viewed at the registration site: http://www.radonleaders.org/Region9_2016-Stakeholders. More information on radon can be found at the Nevada Radon Education Program website at www.RadonNV.com.
