It’s been a wild time for Carter this season

RENO — Abel Carter has done a little bit of everything for the Carson Senators this season.

And, on Friday he was mostly a quarterback, as Carson employed the wildcat formation.

Carter didn’t put up huge numbers, but he did extend his streak of 100-yard games to 10 with an 118-yard effort in Carson’s 21-10 season-ending loss to Reno at Foster Field.

“I thought Abel did a great job,” Carson coach Blair Roman said. “He didn’t have a big stat night, but I thought it was one of his best games of the season.”

Including eight passing attempts, Carter touched the ball 41 times and didn’t turn the ball over once.

The talented junior finished the season with 1,887 yards rushing and 24 rushing touchdowns and 28 total.

“I just do whatever the team needs me to do; wherever they need me the most,” Carter said.

LINE SHUFFLE

Injuries to Bryceton Schilling and Chandler Tierney last week against Douglas forced Carson to shuffle its offensive line yet again.

Sophomore Carl Cavner started at left guard and Roman moved tight end Josh Thompson to a tackle spot. Cavner, a sophomore, impressed Roman.

“We wanted to see what he (Cavner) could do,” Roman said. “He impressed us last week in practice.

“It took a bit for Josh to settle in. I thought he did much better in the second half.”

SHUTOUT TIME

Carson’s defense gave up some yardage, but managed to hold Reno scoreless in the second half.

Reno had the ball four times. The first possession ended with a blocked punt by Jesse Case, his second of the season. The second possession ended with a punt down to the Carson 1, the third ended with a strip by Spencer Rogers, and the Huskies turned the ball over on downs on their final drive.

“The whistle didn’t blow, and Spencer got it as he was (the runner) was falling back,” Roman said.
