Washoe City affray: Ned Curren and Jonathan Yates, well known in Virginia City, went on a drunken spree in Washoe City and commenced fighting in one of the saloons. They left the saloon by the back door and a report of a pistol was heard. When the door was opened, Curren staggered in exclaiming: “My God I’m killed,” and he died. Yates tried to escape and is now lodged in jail.

Politics: Since the boss of the Storey County mud machine has left for California, the novice mud throwers find the thing too heavy for them to work. They only take little gobs of mud off the chute and throw them by hand.

Frank Bell: Once Governor of Nevada in 1890, he was appointed Justice of the Peace when the position was made vacant by death of the incumbent. The Township in Reno is Democratic, but Mr. Bell, who is a Republican, got twice as many votes as his Democrat, Socialist and Independent opponents. Bell was once Manager of the Western Union Telegraph and in charge of the Bell telephone system. He is well known by all the old telegraphers ...
