Looks like tax increase on the horizon

There was an interesting presentation at the recent BOS meeting related to road maintenance. There have been a number of projects completed this year, along with the whole downtown corridor “re-design.” The funds needed to do necessary road repairs around town were estimated to be $11 million plus.

City Manager Nick Marano was quick to point out there aren’t funds to make these necessary repairs. Where to find the funding stream to pay for it, since the voters voted down Question No. CC1 on the November ballot? The irony of the downtown project is the paving, sidewalk, planter part of the project came in at $8 million plus. Those funds would have gone a long way toward making those necessary street repairs.

So, folks, fasten your seat belts. It’s going to be a bumpy night. I see a tax increase coming our way, whether we voted for one or not.

Hope A. Tingle
