League of Women Voters hosting election forums in Carson City

The League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, in partnership with Sierra Nevada Forums, American Association of University Women Capital (NV) Branch, and PFLAG Carson Region, will present a series of election forums on Oct. 11, 12 and 18.

The free forums will feature state and local candidates and experts on the questions that will appear on the November 8 Carson City ballot. The public is invited to attend the three forums at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 West King St. Doors open at 5:30, and the forums begin at 6 p.m. each evening.

“We are delighted that our invitation was well-received and that each and every state and local candidate on the ballot committed to being at this forum,” said Nancy Scott, LWVNNV co-president. “Voters who attend all three of these forums can become fully informed about the candidates and the questions.”

Attendees having questions for the candidates or about the ballot questions may submit them in writing the night of the forums. The lineups for the three evenings are as follows:

Oct. 11: Congressional District 2: Mark Amodei, Chip Evans, John Everhart, Drew Knight. State Board of Education District 2: David W. Carter, Pat Hickey. Board of Regents District 9: Carol Del Carlo, Sara Lafrance. Assembly District 40: Michael Greedy, Al Kramer, John Wagner.

Oct. 12: Carson City Mayor: Chris Carver, Bob Crowell; Board of Supervisors: Brad Bonkowski, Maurice White, John Barrette, and Jim Shirk. School Board Trustee District 5: Steven Reynolds and Michael B. Walker Jr. Carson City’s ballot question concerning the indexing of the gas tax will be discussed.

Oct. 18: Statewide ballot issues: Background Check Initiative; Initiative to Regulate and Tax Marijuana; Energy Choice Initiative; Medical Patient Tax Relief Act.

Early voting is from Saturday, October 22 through Friday, November 4. Early voting takes place on the first floor of the County Courthouse, 885 East Musser Street, Carson City. Election Day is Tuesday November 8.
