WASHINGTON — The Smithsonian’s new National Museum of African American History and Culture is going to try again to distribute free, timed-entry passes after a glitch earlier this week.

The Smithsonian had planned to begin on Monday the distribution of timed-entry passes for the first three months of 2017. But people who tried to get the passes faced long waits and error messages.

The museum said Tuesday that the online reservation system showed passes for October, November and December that had already been distributed rather than passes for 2017. Passes were issued, but for dates from January to March. The Smithsonian says it will re-release passes for January, February and March on Wednesday at 9 a.m.

A limited number of same-day passes are available first-come, first-served at the museum.
