Off for Reno. The editor of the Appeal started for Reno yesterday morning driving a heard of Holsteins over the Washoe grade along with some other cowboys. He had a branding iron strapped to his hip and by the time he reaches the fairground he will have quite a herd to exhibit.

Billy Eastman, the convict evangelist, will speak again this evening at the Methodist church, taking as his subject the condition of the Nevada State Prison.

With scattered rains in Carson City and snow flurries at Lake Tahoe, western Nevadans were getting their second taste of early winter this week. Highway officials returning from Zephyr Cove report a half an inch of powdered snow.

A prisoner at the City-County Jail set the building on fire around noon yesterday, causing a great deal of smoke damage and making it imperative to evacuate all the prisoners in the jail.

The Carson junior varsity lost to Reno 20-14 Friday night in a typical Carson-Reno dogfight. In the past three seasons, the Senators have lost to Reno by a combined six points.
