SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — South Tahoe scored on all of its first eight possessions en route to a lopsided Homecoming victory over Dayton on Friday night. The Vikings beat the Dust Devils 57-0 to keep both teams headed in opposite directions.
South Tahoe (6-1 3A Northern) stopped Dayton on the game’s opening possession, then needed just four plays to find the end zone. Jacob Bernal scored on a 9-yard run, and the ensuing two-point conversion made it 8-0 with 8:31 left in the first quarter.
From there, the Vikings rolled to a fifth straight victory. South Tahoe scored six times in the first half to take a 42-0 lead into halftime, and added two more touchdowns after the break to keep Dayton (0-7) winless.
After Tommy Cefalu found McCallan Castles for a 63-yard touchdown to put South Tahoe ahead 35-0 with 5:10 left in the first half, the remainder of the game was played with a running clock. Cefalu threw for five touchdowns in his second game back from injury.
Castles and Noah Jackson were on the receiving end of two touchdown passes apiece for the Vikings on Friday. Bernal ran for two scores and Max Schweitzer capped the scoring with a 9-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter.
Dayton primarily split its quarterbacking duties between Blake Fletcher and Justin Schmidt, and didn’t cross midfield until recovering an onside kick at the start of the third quarter. The Dust Devils moved the ball to South Tahoe’s 35-yard line in the closing minutes, but threw an interception and couldn’t avoid the shutout.
