Two men have been arrested for their possible involvement in nearly five residential burglaries in Carson City.

Deputies responded to reports of a burglary Sunday at noon after a woman discovered Matthew Curtis, 25, in her residence. According to the arrest report, the two had previously worked together and Curtis had come to her residence to see how she was doing around 11 a.m. The victim reported she told Curtis he had to leave around 11:30 a.m., as she had errands to run. She told detectives she came back at noon and found Curtis in her residence again. He allegedly told her he had broken in to look for money for cigarettes.

Detectives discovered the vehicle Curtis was driving matched the description of a vehicle that had been spotted at several residential burglaries around town.

Detectives went to speak with Curtis Monday about the burglaries and Curtis allegedly admitted to breaking into the victim’s residence Sunday but told detectives he wasn’t involved in the other burglaries. He also allegedly told detectives his brother, Kyle Curtis, 29, often used his vehicle, a 1897 Toyota Corolla.

Residential burglaries had been reported near Cascade Drive on Oct. 3, Lexington Avenue on Oct. 6, Blue Haven Lane on Oct. 14 and Winters and Radcliff drives on Oct. 16. Surveillance and witness statements put the Corolla at the scene of all five burglaries with suspect descriptions that matched Kyle Curtis. Detectives located video surveillance of both brothers pawning items that had been reported stolen.

Matthew Curtis was arrested on suspicion of felony attempted burglary and felony probation violation. He’s being held on $25,000 bail.

Kyle Curtis was arrested on suspicion of felony burglary, felony obtaining money under false pretenses and possession of stolen property. He’s being held on $26,000 bail.
