A college application workshop is Monday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Western Nevada College (WNC) Fallon in Getto Hall, Room 302 for middle and high school students and their parents.
The Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) Chapter D, Rotary Club of Fallon and WNC are sponsoring this informational gathering to help students decide which college is for them as well as how to navigate the application, scholarship and financial aid processes.
“It’s such a complicated, overwhelming process,” said Teresa Gehman, a school counselor for Churchill County School District. “The neat thing about this is you get a professional’s perspective, but you also get a parent’s, someone who’s actually gone through it and learned the lessons the hard way and what they would do differently. So you’re getting the two perspectives and that’s valuable.”
Other presenters are Sherry Black, director of WNC Fallon, and retired Navy Commander Dana Endacott. There will also be refreshments and raffle prizes.
Gehman added attendees will be able to better identify what they’re looking for as well as learn about myths, tricks and tips — so students can increase their chances of getting into the college of their choice.
Tickets (cash only) are $15 for one parent and one student, or $10 per student and $15 per adult. All proceeds go to PEO and Rotary Club scholarships for local high school seniors.
