Ales for Arts, the annual fundraiser to help support CAC’s 2016-2017 programs and activities, will be held tonight from 5-9 p.m. in the Lariat Courtyard at the Oats Park Art Center.
You can sample a selection of brews from Great Basin, Lagunitas, Sierra Nevada and local brewers Ed Rybold/Harve Smith and Barry Cochran. Admission is free and $20 per person for unlimited beer tastings. Music will be provided by the Corner Pocket Band with Dineen Caseday.
Crafty cocktails and wine for the non-beer drinkers will be available for purchase. Also, the Patacón Food Truck will be on-site serving up areapas, plantains and other tasty Colombian treats.
The fall film series featuring three movies with Nicole Kidman will begin in one week.
The 1995 film, “To Die For,” will screen on Oct. 7. It was directed by Gus Van Sant and features Kidman, Matt Dillon, Joaquin Phoenix and Casey Affleck. Kidman won the Golden Globe for Best Actress and was also nominated for New York Film Critics Circle and BAFTA awards.
On Oct. 14, CAC will show “The Hours,” which was released in 2002. It was directed by Stephen Daldry from the Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Michael Cunningham.
The film stars Kidman, Julianne Moore, Ed Harris and Meryl Streep. It won several Oscars including Best Picture, Actress (Kidman), and Supporting Actor (Harris) and actress (Moore).
The series will conclude on Nov. 4 with the 2012 film, “The Paperboy.” The film is based on a novel by Pete Dexter and was directed by Lee Daniels.
In addition to Kidman, the cast also includes Mathew McConaughey, John Cusak Zac Effron and David Oyelowo.
It was nominated for the Palme d’Or (the grand prize) at the Cannes Film Festival and Kidman also received a Golden /Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Tickets will be available on the Oats Park Art Center bar on the nights of the screenings, $7 for CAC members, $10 for non-members. Films will begin at 7 p.m. and the Art Bar will open from 6 p.m. until the conclusion of the films.
Special passes for all three films — $18 for CAC members, $27 for non-members — may be purchased on Oct. 7 at the first movie. For more information, call CAC at 775-423-1440.
