The Greenwave swim team faced tough competition at Reno’s Northwest Pool Saturday, but came away with a number of high placers.

Fallon’s 200-yard relay teams continued to shine, with the girls taking third and the boys taking first. The girls’ relay team of Kaelehn Nemeth, Haley Nelson, Amber Revels and Madison Tiede finished 2:23.96 in the finals. The boys’ team of Lance Turnham, Ruben Alanis, Christian Nemeth and Isaac Kelsey finished in 1:59.00.

The boys’ freestyle relay team of Dylan Millsap, Alanis, Kelsey and Christian Nemeth finished first, 1:43.27.

Alanis also took first in the boys’ 200-yard intramural, 2:33.43. Kaelehn Nemeth took second in the girls’ 50-yard freestyle, finishing 29.09 while Christian Nemeth finished in first for the boys, 24.26. Christian also finished first in the 100-yard butterfly, 1:05.73 and Kelsey finished first in the boys’ 100-yard freestyle, 57.79.

Alanis claimed first in the breaststroke, 1:13.98, and Turnham took third in the 100-yard backstroke, 1:23.76.

Fallon coach Ken Grimes said he felt his team “did an awesome job.” He recalled the swimmers reached several new best times and a number have been qualifying for regionals. Grimes said Christian Nemeth and Revels dropped several seconds from their 100-yard butterfly time.

“We had some really good swims,” Grimes said.

The coach added the team is focused on dropping times and having people qualify for regionals at this point in the season. He said their goal is to see how many swimmers they can qualify.

“That’s about all we can do is get as many in regionals as we can,” Grimes said.

The coach added that along with regionals, they hope to qualify plenty of swimmers for the state tournament.

There is no meet this weekend due to spring break, but the Greenwave returns to Northwest Pool next week to compete against Truckee. Grimes noted this is the week of prom and couldn’t say how the meet would go since there are so many seniors on the team.

“We’ll see how that goes,” Grimes said. “We’ll go out there and give it a shot.”
