One woman was hospitalized Thursday after an accident at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Mounted Unit School.

The victim, described as an elderly female, was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center via CareFlight Thursday morning after falling off her horse, sources said. The woman was training with the Sheriff’s Office to be a part of the mounted horse unit for Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Sources said she was attempting to mount the horse as a part of the training when the horse began moving. She had one foot in the stirrup and was hanging onto the fence before falling off nearly 60 feet from the initial point.

When the Carson City Fire Department arrived, she was unresponsive, however when CareFlight arrived the woman was conscious again. She was taken to Reno, with a possible concussion, however her condition wasn’t confirmed.
