Free events planned at Sierra Place Senior Living in Carson City

Free trips, presentations and other events are being held at Sierra Place Senior Living, 1111 W. College Parkway.

Geri Meyer, a retired therapist, will explore challenges that come with aging at 10 a.m. May 6. Meyer leads Embracing Change and Aging, a discussion about how to make the most of remaining years and other topics, on the first and third Saturdays of the month.

Explore the shores of Washoe Lake and watch for spring’s migrant birds with bird expert Jim Woods at 9 a.m. May 15. Woods said after the lake’s longtime dry spell the shores are now a likely place to find the oriole in addition to other migrating species.

Attendees of a Kentucky Derby party at 2:30 p.m. May 6 are invited to wear their most festive hats as they cheer horses across the finish line. Traditional derby fare will be served. The post time is 3:34 p.m.

“Tales from Truckee” by Mark McLauglin will be at 10 a.m. May 9. The presentation will describe characters and events that shaped the pioneer railroad community.

A field trip to a the Sierra Therapeutic Equestrian Program in Washoe Valley is scheduled for 10 a.m. May 25. The nonprofit therapeutic riding facility works with veterans, children and individuals struggling with physical, mental, emotional or educational special needs. Space is limited and early registration is suggested.
