Helens to head Great Basin College in Elko

The University of Nevada Board of Regents has appointed Joyce Helens president of Great Basin College effective Aug. 1 to replace Mark Curtis, who’s retiring in the fall.

Helens has experience in two- and four-year colleges. She’s currently president of St. Cloud Technical and Community College in Minnesota, a post she has held since 2006.

She previously served in Alaska at the Anchorage Community and Technical College and as executive director of the University of Alaska Corporate Programs.

Great Basin College is headquartered in Elko with branch locations in Battle Mountain, Ely, Pahrump and Winnemucca in addition to a dozen satellite facilities around the state.
