BISHOP, Calif. — The annual Bishop Pabanamanina Powwow is set to take place Sept. 22-24, as part of California Indian Days, at the Bishop Paiute Tribe located at 2742 N. Sierra Highway in Bishop, California
According to news release from Wanda Summers, co-chair of the Bishop Pabanamanina Pow Wow Committee, the powwow has taken place annually over 30 years; all tribes, Native peoples and spectators are welcome to take part in this year’s event.
Originally, the event was funded by Indian Taco Sales and other fundraising by the organizing committee members. While the current committee still holds taco sale fundraisers and solicits donations to help fund the event, this event is also a collaboration and supported from the Bishop Paiute Tribe, Owens Valley Career Development Center/TANF Program, Paiute Palace Casino and the communities of Bishop and the Owens Valley, according to the news release.
Aside from traditional powwow activities and dancing, a road run, parade and family-fun events will take place, along with the Pabanamanina Princess Pageant, where two young ladies will be selected to receive the honor of becoming powwow royalty.
