Flood watch for western Nevada

Fallon area:

Road at Diversion Dam west of Fallon closed because of flooding.

Greater Reno-Carson City-Minden Area-

Including the cities of Sparks, Gardnerville, and Virginia City

...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING...

The Flood Watch continues for

* A portion of western Nevada, including the following area,

Greater Reno-Carson City-Minden Area.

* Through Tuesday morning

* A strong atmospheric river will bring heavy rain with high snow

levels. 2 to 3 inches of rain are possible in the Carson Range

with 1 to 2 inches through most valley locations. This will

contribute to increasing flows on rivers and streams, with an

enhanced flood potential through Tuesday morning.

* The highest risk of flooding is along creeks, streams, and poor

drainage areas today into Tuesday morning. This includes creeks

and streams that drain the foothills and the Carson Range such

as Steamboat Creek, Dry Creek and Eagle Valley Creek. Low lying

areas in both Washoe and Carson Valleys could also see flooding

issues. The Truckee and Carson rivers are forecast to rise to

near monitor stage tonight into Tuesday, but at this time are

expected to remain below flood stage.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Small creeks and streams are the most susceptible to flooding.

Excessive rainfall may also generate rock and mud slides in steep

terrain. Persons in the watch area should take time to clear any

blocked drains in anticipation of the heavy rain. Persons living

along small creeks and streams should monitor the latest weather

information at weather.gov/reno and be prepared to take action

should flooding occur.
