A joint effort between Churchill County, the city of Fallon and Truckee-Carson Irrigation District will be initiated Aug. 4 and continue every Friday in August to pick up any unwanted sandbags, according to the county’s Emergency Operations Center.

Incident Commander Bill Lawry said bags must be on pallets so they can be picked up and taken to the land fill.

Individuals may keep the sand, but the county will pick up the empty bags for disposal.

Lawry said t call center will be open from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. from July 31-Aug. 4 so people can request help.

Lawry said the elderly or disabled may request help to re-stack the sand bags back onto the pallets. He said this depends on the availability of volunteers.

The phone number for the call center is 775-423-4177.
